  3. To answer these questions (on the previous page), the LASCO investigation will study the transport of mass, 
  4. momentum, and energy through the corona and into the solar wind, by measuring: 
  5. ∑  Global distributions of key plasma parameters: temperature, 
  6.    density, bulk and nonthermal (turbulent) velocities, and direction 
  7.    of the magnetic field 
  8. ∑  Time sequences of coronal dynamical events, especially 
  9.    processes that occur in coronal mass ejections, and the 
  10.    conditions that trigger them 
  11. ∑  The spatial distribution and properties of circumsolar dust 
  12.    particles, including those newly released from sungrazing 
  13.    comets.
